Hello all!
First of all, I want to let you know this is a promotional post, but this won’t be the only time you hear from me this week. There’s going to be a new Apophany this week (hopefully tomorrow).
In fact, you’re going to be hearing from me a lot. I’ve decided to launch a Patreon called Christopher Sloce is Writing. It’s pretty much what it sounds like. I’m writing. You can consider this a way to support my ongoing writing efforts if you’ve enjoyed them.
Monetization is very tricky. In a perfect world I would be doing this for free. I also know people aren’t going to immediately sign up for something without knowing what it is. My solution is as follows:
- free Friday- These posts are always free. I’m using free both in the economic sense and as an artistic parameter. I’m doing whatever I want for that week.
- It Was Written: Hip-Hop and American Language- I’m going to try and get these up on a Wednesday starting next week. My first focus is going to be every Wu-Tang Clan album including the solo albums up until Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2, which feels like the last truly canonical thing they put out…unless I’m wrong and find out otherwise. Posts outside of the first month (columns 1-4) will be paywalled after a month. In other words: you are perfectly welcome to keep up with this stuff as it comes out, but after something has been out for a month, it’s going in the vault and you’d need a subscription. The advantage of the Patreon is I get to keep writing well, you get posts right to our email, and you get the archive.
Think of it like public television or radio. You pledge to keep it alive, not to be better than people who can’t.
See you tomorrow and Friday, lord willing and the creek doesn’t rise.
